“Promotion of women’s active participation” is one of the major pillars of Japanese Government’s Growth Strategy. It is crucial for the socio-economic revitalization of our country to realize a society where women can fully and actively display their individuality and ability. Nevertheless, promotion of women’s involvement is still behind in Japan, especially in politics and economy.

In this international symposium we invite Ms.Yukako Uchinaga, one of the female business leaders, to share her views how to utilize women’s ability from a strategic standpoint of a corporation. There follows the report of good practices in Norway, where women’s active participations have been successful, by a panelist from Royal Norwegian Embassy. Moreover, initiatives taken in Korea and Kitakyushu are to be presented and panel discussion will be carried out.

Recruitment for the 23rd KFAW Foreign Correspondents Program

  Kitakyushu Forum on Asian Women (KFAW) is pleased to announce its FY2013 recruitment of our foreign correspondents. KFAW foreign correspondents program aims at expanding an information network through reports on the status of women in the world. So far 266 correspondents from 40 countries have reported their cultures, women’s status and social issues from gender perspective.

  We suppose every country or region might have expressions or customs based on stereotypical gender roles. These are challenges to be addressed by society as a whole to make use of full capacities of men and women. We would like you to give us your original reports on how men and women equally take active parts in society free from stereotyped perception for gender roles.

 

1.Number of Recruits 3 persons
2.Qualifications (1)KFAW is soliciting foreign correspondents who are residents principally in the Asia Pacific region excluding Japan. (Nationality or gender is not a factor)
(2)Correspondents must turn in 3 reports in Japanese or English.
3.Term July, 2013 ~ March, 2014
4.Application Applicants must submit the following items to KFAW by May 31, 2013 (Fri.) through e-mail (info@kfaw.or.jp)
(1)Application form (profiles within 150 words in English)
(2)1st report (Up to 1,200 Japanese characters or up to 700 English words.)
(3)Photograph/s related to your report with caption. (please reduce the total size of pictures less than 3MB)

5.Theme “Get United – To Eliminate Violence against Women and Girls”
    Violence against women and girls occurs everywhere in the world. Japan is no exception. Violence against women and girls causes each victim immeasurable suffering and pain.

    The 23rd Kitakyushu Conference on Asian Women will deal with international trends regarding violence against women and girls, as well as relevant efforts being promoted in Europe, Korea and Japan, including problems to be solved, thereby contributing to the realization of a society free of violence.

    The keynote speech will be delivered by the Executive Director of White Ribbon Campaign UK, a male organization that calls on men to eliminate violence against women. He will speak about efforts being promoted in Europe, followed by a panel discussion.

    He will report activities of the White Ribbon Campaign, and the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

  The main theme of the 22nd Foreign Correspondents Program is “Striving for the creation of communities where both men and women can fully demonstrate their potential equally.”

These are challenges to be addressed by society as a whole to make use of full capacities of men and women.
